Fall/Winter 2010 Art Class Schedule

 Programs are small groups with emphasis on one-on-one teacher/student interaction. Within the process of art-exploration, the language of art (shape, line, texture, balance, form, etc.) will take place.  The active participation in hands-on projects helps young minds develop a visual and kinesthetic style of learning, which can guide the student “early on” in discovering the countless connections around them which makes all learning a colorful and creative experience.

Just for 2's Studio  (with caretaker, for ages 24 - 36 months)
Fine motor skills, coordination & self-esteem will be engaged as little hands and minds explore the world around them through art.

Limit:  5 artists per class
Fee:  Session 1= 6 weeks/$60  
           Session 2= 7 weeks/ $70

Independent Art Start   ages  2.5 - 3.5 years (no parent needed, plus potty-trained)
A studio time set up just for independent souls-artists will have a chance to interact with peers & teacher while gaining freedom and curiosity with a variety of art materials.

Limit:    6 artists per class

Pre-school Programs (ages 3.5 - 6)
Art will be concentrated around a specific  theme or book & created with a variety of art materials.  Young  students will get a chance to gain a level of comfort with materials, in which is truly important for them to enjoy, express,  and  progress with their creative process and art.  Materials used will be paints, pastels, papers, pencils, and clay.

  -choose one:  a one hour class
Mon.  11:00    Tues.  9:30, 2:00      Wed. 9:30  
Thurs. 11:00   OR    add more time to their art studio time
 (geared towards children ages 4 - 6).  Extended class sessions:
Wed.  1:30 - 3:00    or     Fri. 12:30 - 2:00

 Session 1 - Drawing and Painting
   Drawing focused on realism, still-life, and
     individual imaginations while applying  artistic techniques,
     including  but not limited to shading, hatching, shadow,
      perspective, coloring...
      In addition to drawings will be some writing/storytelling.
      Painting will include  watercolor pencils, watercolors, tempera,
      gouache and (acrylic for grades 3 - 6).
      
    **A set of drawing  pencils and a journal will be given to each
    artist grades 3 - 6 for use at home/studio. ($10 fee)  


Session 2  - Sculpture and  Form
    Sculpture will begin with the fundamental steps of
      clay-building and then progress as the student understands
      the properties, or the power of mud.    Projects will range from             
      functional (goblets, pencil holders...)  decorative (tiles,
      figures...)  and whimsical-imaginative  forms.   
      This class is focused on clay and supplemental materials.  
 
Limit:   10 artists per class
Fee:    Session 1=    6 weeks/$65   
                              grades 3 - 6, add $10 pencil/journal fee  
             Session 2= 7 weeks/ $90
